The Bloodhound Gang Makes Silly Music-that much is obvious from any band that would title their latest album Hooray For Boobies (Geffen). But The Goofball 'tude is grounded in an impressive live show that the group shamelessly displayed on the opening date of its current tour. The debauchery included a fizzy dare involving a fan who was invited onstage and challenged to guzzle an entire 12-pack of Dr. Pepper without barfing. While the kid drowned in soda, the guys stormed through favorites such as "I Wish I Was Queer So I Could Get Chicks" and "Lift Your Head Up High (And Blow Your Brains Out)". Thanks To Bassist Evil Jared, The grooves fueling such ditties were extra chunky; DJ Q-Ball kept the cuts precise and frontman Jimmy Pop Ali bestowed wedgies and cavorted with glee. The festive crew plunged into new material that was equal parts hard-rock grit and hip-hop stomp ("The Ballad Of Chasey Lain" and "I Hope You Die"). "Pac Man" made an appearance armed with a happy yellow bong and weenies. The soda pop kid made it 12 songs into the set before he spewed, but the ordeal ended just in time for crowd favorite "The Bad Touch", a disco-infused finale which found the gang doing its best N'Sync. It's hard to be this nutty and still rock, but the Bloodhound Gang is proving to be multi-talented enough to pulll it off in style.
